Magnet…a great activity for parents and children

A simple magnet 1 ½ - 3 inches long can help children learn some very important lessons about God. The best places we know of to find such a magnet are Hobby Lobby or the internet. A small 3 inch magnet is inexpensive and strong enough for the following activities.
Put a few pins, paper clips etc. in a shoe box. Move the magnet underneath the shoe box and the metal pieces move with it. This is called magnetism or magnetic force. You can't see magnetism but it is very real. The same is true of God. You can't see him but he moves all things. He created all the rules of science but without him none of them would work.
The next lesson is about getting personal with God…the biggest step any of us can take. You will need an iron nail at least 2 inches long, a few staples from an office stapler. We like finishing nails the best. Stroke the nail along the magnet in the same direction AT LEAST twenty times. The power (magnetism) from the magnet goes into the nail. If you have stroked the nail enough times it will have the power to pick up a staple or two. You can't see the magnetism but it changes the nail in ways we cannot see. The nail is no longer just a nail. It now has the power to draw other iron objects to it. That is what God does for us. He draws us close to Jesus and the invisible power of The Holy Spirit changes us inside. The more time we spend with Jesus (like stroking the magnet) the more we become like Him and in God's time we will be changed completely. Spending time with God is studying Bible verses AND praying…. asking God to make them real to us.
Learning a Bible Verse without trusting/asking God to help us understand it and let it change us just doesn't do the Job. Satan knows the whole Bible but he does not let it change him. He doesn't want to be changed. If you want to be changed, to be made strong enough to love others and trusting enough to let God guide you, you have to study scripture, pray and trust God to do what he says he will do.
2 Corinthians 3:18: But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord.
No parent could be more loving than to help a child get PERSONAL with God…
